Education in Emergencies

In times of crisis, when safety and survival are the top priorities, how can educators ensure that children continue to receive a quality education? This session on "Education in Emergencies" explores the critical role that educators can play in maintaining learning continuity amidst challenges such as conflict, natural disasters, or other emergencies. Join us for an engaging discussion centered around this theme by educators working in varied geographies.

Michelle Markos

Michelle Markos is the COO of Sunbird Trust, an organisation that works with the vision of PEACE THROUGH EDUCATION in insurgency affected parts of Manipur and other geographically challenged areas in the North East India. She resonated strongly with Sunbird Trust’s vision of ‘Peace through Education’ and joined the organization in 2019 where she was an assistant school leader in partner Sungcham Friendship School at Puichi Village in Noney District of Manipur.Michelle worked briefly with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in Education before she joined back at Sunbird Trust as the People & Partnerships Lead. She lives in Imphal, Manipur and travels to all the sunbird project locations across North East.

Stanzin Saldon

Stanzin Saldon, born and raised in Ladakh, initially pursued MBBS but later transitioned to the development sector. Her love for writing and storytelling led her to become a contributor to the People’s Archive of Rural India, sharing stories from rural Ladakh. An alumna of the WJ Clinton Fellowship, she also worked as a Quality Improvement Manager for the Kaivalya Education Foundation on a state educational transformation program for nearly four years. In 2015, she co-founded rZamba Charitable Trust and, since 2019, has been working with the mission of empowering children in Ladakh through quality, equitable education to foster meaningful and lasting  change in Ladakh and beyond. Saldon, now a mother of two, is also a TFIx entrepreneur alum from the 2023-24 batch.

Rizvi Aquil Abbas

Rizvi Abbas is the founder and CEO of Voyage Education, an org which is building community leaders to transform education in rural and remote areas of India. Rizvi has completed his Bachelors in Architecture from the University of Mumbai. His interest lies in altruistic architecture, with a particular consideration for landscapes. He has an extensive skillset including the ability to communicate his ideas using both conventional and modern techniques.
